Report Your Outage

Multiple ways to report and get help with gas emergencies

Before You Report: Check Your Circuit Breaker

If you smell gas (a rotten egg odor), follow these safety steps immediately.

1

Protect Sensitive Devices

Do not light matches, use lighters, or operate any electrical switches. Even small sparks can ignite natural gas.
2

Locate Your Circuit Breaker

Leave your home or building immediately. Do not stop to gather belongings. Open doors and windows on your way out if you can do so quickly.
3

Inspect for Damage

Move at least 100 feet away from the building or area where you smell gas. Do not use your phone until you are a safe distance away.
4

Check Breaker Positions

From a safe location, call 911 and Gas Company at 1-800-427-2200. Do not re-enter the building until emergency responders say it is safe.
5

Reset Tripped Breakers

If safe to do so, locate your gas meter (usually on the side of your house) and turn off the gas supply valve by rotating it a quarter turn so it is perpendicular to the pipe.
6

Still No Power?

Do not turn your gas supply back on yourself. A Gas Company technician must inspect and relight your appliances to ensure everything is safe. Call 1-800-427-2200 to schedule service.

Gas Emergency

Downed Power Lines

Install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home. CO is odorless and colorless. If your detector sounds, leave immediately and call 911. Have gas appliances inspected annually.

Generator Safety

Never use your gas oven or stovetop to heat your home. This creates dangerous carbon monoxide levels. Only use gas appliances for their intended purpose and keep flammable items away from gas equipment.
